Jane Laing Rennie

Jane lives with her parents and siblings, Mary and James. Her family have a “Clothier & Gent’s Furnishing” store in Napanee, which Jane often visits in the evening. At home she bakes crullers and oatcakes, makes soap, cleans the parlour and cook house, papers the kitchen, tends nephew Robbie (Lahey), feeds visitors, sews a grenadine dress and gets her ears pierced. On Sundays she attends Mass and Vespers. The year 1873 is tough, as James and her mother die.
