Minetta “Nettie” Walton

“Nettie” is the youngest child of her father’s two marriages. She writes in a very tiny, cramped script about her housework, courtship, and lively social life which is often accompanied by music, singing, and dancing. She skates, plays the organ, attends temperance meetings, and quilts. On occasion, she kills a chicken and milks the cows. In 1891, she marries the prosperous farmer Archie Speers, who is fourteen years older.  She is described by her contemporaries as a kind, gentle woman, and a hard worker.
