George Wilson

English Naval Lieutenant George moves his family to Upper Canada in 1832 and establishes “Marchburn Farm” on land granted to him.  With his half-pay allowance from the navy and grant of 900 acres, he is better off than most settlers. Though he hires men to log and chop his land, he often works beside them as they turn wildland into fields.  He mentions the Rebellion of 1837 but his intermittent entries focus on clearing land, controlling insects, tending animals, building a dam, and church activities.
