Jean “Jennie” Fleming

Jennie keeps a travel diary of her trip by train in 1869 to Toronto to acquire goods for a store in Kilsyth that she and her two brothers run.  She lists her purchases and then travels to Bowmanville to attend the convention of the Disciples of Christ.  In 1871, she records her trip by steamer to Marquette, Michigan. In 1891, you can read about Jenny in Roy Fleming’s diary, as she helped raise him after his mother died. In her 1903, diary she travels to the Fleming homestead in Perthshire, Scotland, and other parts of the U.K. with her nephew Roy, her brother James and his daughter Minerva.  She never married and devoted her time to family, church, social reform and cultural affairs.
