John Barnhill 

John is very appreciative and observant of the beauty around him and the changing seasons. He provides more description about events and his experiences than some diarists and has an inquiring mind. He attends and assesses various churches, including that of the Plymouth Brethren which has just been established in 1871 at the southern end of Lake Huron. He is a keen reader of religious books and subscribes to the Farmer’s Advocate. His interest in life extends to the activities of everyone in his household and his neighbours.
