Biography

In this short diary, John tells of his journey in the ship “Charlotte,” from London, England, to Upper Canada. On the way, he is seasick, sees icebergs and whales, and partakes in wine and dancing to fiddle music on deck. The diary ends upon his arrival in Kingston. Thereafter he runs a livery stable in St. Thomas. Then he farms in Middlesex County. Eventually, he settles in Kent County near Shrewsbury where he runs a hotel, farms and is a drover. In 1875, he retires to Blenheim where he becomes Reeve.
