John Jamieson

Previously a schoolteacher in Scotland, John tries his hand at teaching and farming in Middlesex County while his sister keeps house for him. He captures the “rough and ready” life of early settlement days with the challenges of maintaining a school and Presbyterian Church and tales of fighting and “mean insulting insinuations”. Notice how his neighbours help him when his place goes up in flames and when he seriously injures his leg at a logging bee.
