Leonard Iler 

Leonard, Helen, and their girls live with his parents. He inherits the farm which is located a short distance from the shores of Lake Erie. In 1870, his only son dies in infancy. Leonard makes brief entries pertaining to farm activities, and towards the end of the diary, these give way to monthly summaries. He holds local Covenant meetings and does business in Kingsville. They have a chestnut orchard, a smokehouse, and the “Iler Jesuit Pear tree,” planted about 1808, and considered to be the largest common pear tree, now nearly extinct.
