Biography

Peter emigrated in 1853 with his parents from Scotland. In 1891, at the age of forty-four, he married nineteen-year-old Mabel Buck. He was a teacher in Wallaceburg and Chatham Township for several years, but when his diary begins, he and Mabel are farming. He has a scraper which he uses to dig drainage ditches for various people. On occasion, he hires Indigenous labourers. Amongst other tasks, he does the books for the Forester Lodge and Calvin Church, and is Deputy Reeve, a mail carrier, and 1911 census enumerator.
